Innovation and Entrepreneurship
India, with its burgeoning population and dynamic economy, is at the forefront of embracing innovation and entrepreneurship. The government’s “Startup India” initiative has fueled a vibrant startup ecosystem, attracting investments and fostering a culture of innovation. Skill development programs are equipping the workforce with the necessary tools to drive entrepreneurship, bridging the gap between academia and industry needs. This is especially important in a young country like India where youth make up a significant percentage of its demography, offering a potential pool of innovators and entrepreneurs.
The adoption of circular economy and the push to Skill India and Make in India has empowered Indians to explore their potential in their respective fields. Digitisation has further helped in the ease of doing business. Startups, from fintech and e-commerce to healthcare delivery and transportation are booming successful. These ventures are not only creating job opportunities but also addressing social and environmental challenges. For instance, innovative agricultural solutions are enhancing crop yields, while technology-driven healthcare platforms are expanding access to medical services in remote areas. Such initiatives contribute to economic growth, social development, and sustainability. India has become the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world after the US and China.

However, challenges persist. The alarming statistic that 99% of the global population breathes unhealthy air with high levels of fine particulate matter, is of serious concern. The prevalence of obesity is showing an upward trend, raising concerns for public health. Climate change has emerged as a critical factor impacting all aspects of health, from clean air, water, and soil to food systems and livelihoods. Urgent action to address climate change is imperative to mitigate health risks, preserve the gains made in global health, and uphold the human right to health for all.
In the face of these challenges, the healthcare sector seeks innovative solutions through new technologies and data-driven and evidence-based approaches. Collaborative effort between nations is crucial to ensure a healthier and more equitable world. As we navigate the complexities of public health, the path ahead lies in learning from past mistakes and building on past successes, embracing emerging technologies, and standing united in our commitment to create a thriving global health landscape for generations to come.
“The 17 frontier technologies covered in the report such as artificial intelligence, Internet of Things and green hydrogen already represent a $1.5 trillion market, which could grow to over $9.5 trillion by 2030 about three times the current size of the Indian economy.”
