This issue of Big Cats Magazine explores close to 90-100 Irbises (snow leopard in Russian) roam the southern Siberian range in the Russian Federation today. This number, based on a 2024 estimate, is considered critical by conservationists to preserve the species for the long-term.he 2024 estimate identified the snow leopards in Southern Siberia. The snow leopard (Panthera uncia) inhabits parts of 12 countries: Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Suitable habitats for these majestic cats have been shrinking, leading to the snow leopard being named on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Vulnerable species
