Sankala Foundation
The Sankala Foundation is a non-profit organisation established in 2022 under Section (8) of the Companies Act, 2013 of India. Our primary focus is to strengthen the knowledge base and promote dialogue among various stakeholders to foster initiatives that contribute to the sustainability of our planet. We are particularly committed to mitigating the effects of climate change and environmental disasters, with a strong focus on protecting and fostering vulnerable communities.
The Foundation actively engages in research and promotes knowledge–based advocacy. We strive to contribute to developing sustainable policies and practices, and to foster partnerships at all levels with governments, NGOs, the scientific community, and domain experts who share similar objectives.
Philosophy
‘Sankala’, a Hindi word that embodies the concept of ‘the coming together of all elemental units as one,’ serves as the guiding principle for our organisation. This principle is anchored in the Aristotelian philosophy that emphasises “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts”. This drives our commitment to leveraging the synergy of ideas, energy, and knowledge in our mission to build a climate resilient and sustainable planet.
Logo
Sankala’s logo shows a Bodhi leaf (Ficus religiosa) which symbolisses knowledge and enlightenment. The union of the leaf and the planet, symbolises the inter- connectedness and inter play between knowledge, sustainability, and life forms on Earth. The network grid showcases the importance of sharing and disseminating, knowledge with the world.
The word ‘Sankala’ in the logo, along with its union with the globe, represents the concept of ‘Sankalan’ or aggregation. It signifies the coming together of knowledge, ideas, cultures, science, innovation, and entrepreneurship. It reflects how this association can drive the world towards a better future.
