Disaster Management

The Disaster Management Intern will support Sankala Foundation’s initiatives in disaster
risk reduction, preparedness, and resilience-building. The role involves research, policy
analysis, field engagement, and structured documentation aligned with national and
international frameworks.

Eligibility & Educational Background

The candidate should possess or be pursuing a Master’s Degree or Post Graduate Diploma in Disaster Management, or a Master’s Degree in Geology/ Geography, or any other relevant discipline, with demonstrated academic exposure to Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.

Key Areas of Work
  • Conduct research on multi-hazard risks (natural and anthropogenic);
  • Support preparation of policy briefs, analytical reports, and knowledge products;
  • Document case studies, best practices, and lessons learned;
  • Assist in compilation and comparison of multi-state datasets;
  • Identify gaps in disaster preparedness, coordination mechanisms, and response systems;
  • Participate in field visits, stakeholder consultations, and data collection exercises.
Required Knowledge

The candidate should have a basic understanding of multi-hazard risks, including both
natural and anthropogenic hazards. Familiarity with disaster management frameworks such
as the NDMA Guidelines and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

Required Skills for Potential Candidates
The candidate is expected to demonstrate strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize large volumes of reports and technical documents, extract key patterns and insights, and compare multi-state datasets to identify systemic gaps. The candidate should also possess strong writing and documentation skills, with the ability to draft structured, policy-oriented content and convert field observations into case studies, lessons learned, and best practices while maintaining clarity, neutrality, and analytical rigour. The role further requires fieldwork and observational capabilities. The candidate should be willing to undertake field visits, conduct systematic observations, and maintain structured documentation including field notes, photographic evidence, and logs.
