A collaborative effort between Sankala Foundation and the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), Hidden Treasures explores the unknown gems of India’s tiger reserves, presenting a new dimension of exploration for wildlife enthusiasts and a journey through time for heritage lovers. This publication documents 63 heritage sites across 28 tiger reserves in 16 states, revealing quaint shrines, ancient relics, rich Dravidian-style temples, and remnants of royal residences that stand as living links to history.
This book also addresses a crucial challenge that surfaced during the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to a significant decline in visitors to heritage sites and negatively impacted communities whose livelihood is dependent on these places. By regenerating interest in these precious landmarks, Hidden Treasures hopes to reconnect especially the younger generation with the glorious history of the Indian subcontinent.
With enchanting visuals, informative text, and QR codes to help navigate tiger reserves and spot these treasures, the book offers a deeper look at structures that remain an integral part of India’s natural and cultural heritage. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG11), it reinforces the importance of preserving cultural and natural heritage, ensuring these sites continue to inspire future generations.
