In alignment with our commitment to fostering knowledge and driving action in the domain of climate and sustainability, Sankala is initiating a Resource Person Programme. Sankala Centre for Climate and Sustainability is looking to collaborate with eminent personalities, experts, policy professionals and practitioners, current and retired civil servants, government employees and academicians with prior experience of working in any policy sector.
We invite individuals with substantial expertise, experience, and a deep commitment to climate and sustainability to join us in advancing our mission. Resource persons will play a pivotal role in shaping our educational and advocacy initiatives. Their contribution will involve designing training modules and conducting sessions to enhance the capacity of individuals, including civil servants and professionals, in India and beyond.
Objective
To advance the knowledge base, network with policy experts and bring forth best climate and environment centric solutions by designing innovative, cutting edge and customized capacity building training for the team as well as provide first-hand experience from the grassroot. This scheme aligns well with the expanding mandate of Sankala and provides an equitable and accessible pool of like-minded policy experts at the heart of Centre’s activities.
Role
This programme aims to build projects with a range of expertise and most importantly the indispensable mentorship for a young professionals aligned with the Centre. The resource persons can help with developing proposals & programmes, research & analysis, facilitate dialogue with national and global stakeholders, promote institution building and conduct capacity building exercises on converging areas of the and furthermore, conduct sessions for civil servants of India and other countries.
Eligibility
- The resource person must meet at least one of the following criteria to engage with Sankala under this scheme:
- A Ph.D. in the relevant field of expertise with at least 10 years of professional experience working in policy, governance, or the private sector in one of the areas mentioned in Annex I.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience with state/central government, reputed academic or research organizations, international development agencies, think tanks, or a mix of all. Preference will be given to individuals with work experience in the social sector, academia, project & scheme monitoring, published work/policy papers, and/or field experience.
- A person with a Ph.D. in the relevant discipline, research experience, published papers, and post-qualification experience in the relevant field would be preferred.
- A Master’s degree in WASH, Economics, Statistics, Social Sciences, Environment, Waste Management, Climate Change, Public Health, or a related area from a recognized university with 15 years of experience in the field.
- Scientists, Advisors, Entrepreneurs, or Consultants working in the areas mentioned in Annex I.
- The age of the candidate shall not be less than 30 years or exceed 55 years at the time of application.
Selection Process
The resource person application, selection and engagement would be carried out through an online process.
- Applicants must furnish all required information with absolute honesty and transparency for a successful application, as the Centre shall verify such information like academic certificates, experience letters/professional experience, and personal ID at the time of formal engagement. Failure to provide accurate information will result in disqualification.
- Candidates are encouraged to select multiple areas of engagement based on their interests and subject expertise. For each category, they must specify their proposal or scope of training summary where their expertise would be best utilized.
- Applicants with incomplete information or who do not meet the eligibility criteria shall be automatically disqualified by the system.
- Completed applications will be reviewed by the advisory board. Selected candidates will be notified for further official engagement, during which their professional experience will be verified through the provided references.
- Based on capacity-building program slots and new training program requirements, domain experts will be notified about the requirements and frequency of engagement.
Duration
Logistics and Support
Any resource person working with Sankala will be provided logistics and technical support in terms of work space, computer and additional resources as per the need of the engagement.

Our Resource Persons

Mr Vidya Bhushan Kumar
Distinguished Fellow
His expertise in integrating environmental sustainability with developmental goals has led to impactful initiatives, including the pioneering conservation efforts in Green Punjab Mission, promotion of Trees Outside Forests, initiation of carbon credit compensation in Punjab and eco-restoration of Shivalik Hills with community participation. Mr Kumar has not only been instrumental in drafting Tourism Master Plan for Punjab and securing ADB assistance for tourism infrastructure, but also enabling institution building and successfully implementing ADB project. His role in the Government of India in MoEFCC and Water Resource ministry at policy framing and advisory role has been equally challenging and fulfilling. As Chief Vigilance Officer of Defence PSU, he has immensely contributed in institutionalising preventive vigilance and ethical management framework in corporate governance. Now, as an advocate for sustainable conservation practices, Mr Kumar continues to leverage his vast cross-sectoral experience to support the protection of India’s unique ecosystems and biodiversity.
At Sankala Foundation, he guides the initiatives on eco-restoration, environmental sustainability, promotion of nature conservation and documentation of natural heritage and related activities. Mr Kumar is an avid photographer and enjoys nature and wildlife photography, bird watching, and exploring impact study tours.
