Sankala Centre for Climate & Sustainability

Sankala Centre for Climate and Sustainability (SCCS) is dedicated to advancing research, training, education, outreach, and advocacy on subjects related to climate change and sustainability. The Centre is committed to collaborate with the government and its parastatal organisations, non-governmental organisations, local communities, women and youth, scientific communities, and domain experts, with a shared focus on working towards a planet- positive future for all life on Earth.

The collaborations extend to the local, national, and international levels. At the heart of the Centre’s ethos is a resolve to contribute meaningfully towards improving the quality of life, especially of disadvantaged and marginalised communities. The aim to design and support programmes that help in building a more inclusive environment for all, through evidence-based policy research, advocacy and sustainable resource management practices.

Objective

  • To carry out education, research, training, outreach and advocacy in the field of water, air, clean energy, climate change, biodiversity, environment, disaster management, mobility, urban renewal, sanitation & public health, innovations & entrepreneurship, and science & technology;
  • To contribute in improving the quality of life of people in general and the disadvantage and marginalized sections of society in particular, by contributing in policy making and better resource management to eliminate poverty;
  • To build knowledge base and skills to enable various stakeholders to take steps to ensure environmental sustainability, reduce environmental disasters and mitigate the effects of climate change and disasters especially on vulnerable communities; and
  • Promote knowledge-based advocacy and develop practices, engage with and foster partnerships with various government and non-government organizations working with similar objectives at local, national, and international levels.
